Food Chain Of The Leatherback's HabitatThe primary producer in the food chain of the Leatherback is seaweed. Then comes the primary consumers (mainly jellyfish) which eat the seaweed. Then there is the secondary consumer which in this case is the Leatherback Sea Turtle. It eats the jellyfish. Finally there are the detrivors (mostly crabs) which eat the dead bodies of the turtle.

The Food Web Of The Leatherback's Habitat
What Would Happen If You Removed The Leatherback From The Food Web?
The Leatherback Sea Turtle is a major jellyfish predator. This is very important because jellyfish predominantly eat fish larvae and seaweed. If the Leatherback Sea Turtle was to disappear, there would be many more jellyfish. Jellyfish populations are already increasing at a rapid pace (possibly due to global warming). This means more larvae being eaten, and therefore less adult fish. For many parts of the world fish is the main food source for humans.
